Historical Narrative



This Liberty ship was named for A.P. Hill (1825-1865). Ambrose Powell Hill, Jr. was an American military officer. Hill graduated from West Point and served as a U.S. Army officer during the Mexican-American War. Hill served in the Confederate Army, rising to the rank of lieutenant general before being killed during the Third Battle of Petersburg.
