Historical Narrative



This Liberty ship was named for Augustine B. McManus (1877-1941). Augustine Boas McManus was a naval officer and scientist. McManus was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. McManus worked for the U.S. Hydrographic Bureau and started the ice patrols by the U.S. Coast Guard following the sinking of RMS Titanic.
