This Liberty ship was named for Abiel Foster (1735-1806). Abiel Foster was a minister and politician. Foster served as a New Hampshire delegate to the Continental Congress. Foster was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Hampshire from 1789-1791 and again from 1795-1803.
