Sea Shadow (Custody ship)
Sea Shadow is an experimental stealth ship developed by the U.S. Navy to study methods to limit a vessel’s radar profile and test the stability of the Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) hull configuration. Although construction was completed in 1985, the Navy never fully commissioned the vessel. Sea Shadow was constructed and tested under a high degree of secrecy; until the Navy made its existence public in 1993, all tests were conducted at night. Sea Shadow entered the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet under a reimbursable custody agreement in September 2006.
