Management is carried out by the Ballast Water Working Group of the MEPC. In this
section, reports
of meetings of the working group, products
of the Working Group, and other papers developed for MEPC on ballast water will be provided. |

Australia
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry service of Australia recently announced that mandatory
ballast water requirements will become effective July 1, 2001. There are a series of

Canada
Guidelines were recently published by Transport Canada that dealt with
ballast water discharge in Canadian waters. This section will update all Canadian
activities in ballast water management. |

Norway
The Norwegian Research Council has published a Ballast Water Transfer Atlas based on approaches using biogeography
and risk assessment in order to prevent the transfer of harmful aquatic species.
Future efforts in Norway will be highlighted in this section. |
