Secretary LaHood Honors Merchant Mariners on Veterans Day, 2009
Early on a cold, rain-slicked Veterans Day morning, November 11, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood gave brief remarks and laid a wreath by the Gold Star Wall of the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC. While the ceremony and the Secretary's remarks acknowledged and honored all U.S. veterans, his focus was particularly on the U.S. Merchant Marine and their contribution to the Allied victory in World War II.
