This year's Veterans Day Ceremony at the World War II Memorial will specifically include honors for the U.S. Merchant Marine. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will give brief remarks and lay a wreath in memory of merchant mariners. As you may know, the World War II memorial was one of the first major war memorials to include recognition of the merchant marine on an equal footing with the armed services.

The Veterans Day observance, which will begin at 8 am on Wednesday, November 11, includes Senator Daniel Akaka as keynote speaker, as well as representatives from the White House and the U.S. Armed Forces, and it will honor all veterans of military and merchant marine service. Public attendance is encouraged.

The World War II Memorial is on the National Mall, at the east end of the reflecting pool, between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
