On April 11, 2010, Paula Ewen became the Associate Administrator for Administration/Chief Information Officer.
She is responsible for formulating, directing, and coordinating national Maritime Administration policies and programs related to human resources, administrative and management services, acquisition, security, and information technology.
Paula has extensive experience in Department of Transportation and while with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) served in both program and administrative management leadership positions. She assisted FHWA in establishing and marketing the Intelligent Transportation Systems program and participated in FHWA's Research, Development, and Technology initiatives. As the Director of the Office of Information and Management Services she is responsible for the FHWA field and headquarters information technology program, facilities management for 63 locations, organization development and management improvement studies.
She served as the Associate Administrator for Administration in the Research and Innovative Technology Administration assisting in the organization and staffing of this new DOT operating element.
Recently, Paula served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration handling key departmental administrative activities.
Paula has a Bachelor of Arts in Technology Management from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science in Public Administration, American University. Paula also graduated from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Leadership Institute, the Federal Executive Institute, and the Key Executive Leadership Program. In addition, Paula’s affiliations, recognition and special skills are as follows: Senior Executive Association, Federal Executive Institute (FEI) Alumni Association; Certified Professional Career Coach. Federal 100 Award winner for managing and influencing government systems, Who’s Who in American Women and Interviews by the Washington Post and Federal Computer Week. Speaking to groups and facilitating sessions (headquarters and field offices; senior-level executives and mid-level managers) on technical, management and leadership issues. Facilitating sessions on Strategic Planning, Performance Planning and Measurements, Project Management, Quality Control and Self-Assessments, Environmental Justice, Team Building, Customer Service, Motivation, and Partnerships. Teaching courses on resume writing, interviewing techniques, career development, mentoring, as well as health and aerobics. Giving back to the community and workplace by mentoring students and employees!
