Logistics Support: New vessels and new forms of transport at ports and in waterways require new types of logistical management systems.

Offshore: Increasing quantities of bulk and non-bulk cargo are creating demand for more delivery and storage space.  Offshore ports can ease congestion if designed in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Operations Support: Crew size and make-up, as well as vessel designs, are changing.   Managing these requires enabling tools that support efficient functioning of systems.

Ship Maintenance and Repair:  Maintenance and repair procedures conducted on-board ships and in shipyards are becoming less costly and more efficient.

Small Craft: Port designs and ocean-going transportation systems must consider the effects of system changes to small craft, such as sailing, ferry, and fishing vessels.
