Introducing MARAD's new RTDD Initiative (2/3/03)The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced a new research
initative on March 4, 2003. MARAD has embarked on a new focus that is aimed on
building an infrastraucture with a core of innovative leaders and researchers that will
help the U.S. maritime industry move successfully in the 21st century. MARAD plans to work
with the maritime industrty, academia, and other governmental agencies to identify,
gather, coordinate, stimulate, facilitate, and accomplish research testing,
demonstrationand deployment of maritime transportation innovation. This website is
the first product of the initiative, a building block upon which to work together to
enhance and provide a place to bring focus to partnering and thinking of critical needs
and opportunities.
Welcome to the U.S. Maritime Administration's Research,
Development, and Deployment (RTDD) web pages. These pages offer a web-based resource
for stakeholders interested in research, development, testing, and evaluation of maritime
systems. Research provides the foundation through which innovation may be
accomplished and new ideas transformed into new products and processes.
The links provided
here collect insight into issues facing the industry, its users, and potential
users. Each issue area is tied to the Maritime Administration's overall goal of
helping to facilitate system improvements to assure efficient and competitive U.S.
maritime transportation commercial products and services to meet commercial growth demands
while satisfying national security needs, all in an environmentally responsible and safe
manner. The links are intended to offer useful information about completed R&D
efforts, ongoing programs and projects, studies identifying needed R&D, and references
to other sources of information useful for accomplishing
innovation.
Internally, MARAD
addresses RTDD in each of its programmatic areas. These efforts are coordinated
through these web pages and related to other ongoing efforts. Questions and comments
may be addressed to Mr. Alexander C. Landsburg, Coordinator of Research and Development at
Alex.Landsburg@marad.dot.gov, Tel:
