U.S.
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, MARITIME ADMINISTRATION NOTICE AND
OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT AND INPUT
Request for Public
Comment
The
Maritime Administration (MARAD) is actively seeking public comment
on the historic nature of some of its ships in the National Defense
Reserve Fleet. These ships have been determined to be obsolete, and
will eventually be listed for disposal. MARAD is meeting its
obligations under the National Historic Preservation Act, Section
106, and is contacting people who are likely to have expertise and
interest in this area.
It
would be helpful if you would include in your comments some
indication of reasons for your interest in the ship; for example, it
would be helpful to us to know if you are a curator of a maritime
museum, or if you served on the ship, or know someone who did.
Please feel free to pass this notification on to others who may also
have knowledge of the historic nature of these ships.
The
comment period will remain open indefinitely for other vessels, soon
to be posted to this site. Comments may be submitted online at the
web site or e-mailed to
envmarad@marad.dot.gov. MARAD is required to dispose of these
vessels. (Pub. Law 10-451, as amended 16 U.S.C. 5405). Comments may
also be delivered by mail or hand carried to:
