Role and Purpose
The South Atlantic Region office, located in Norfolk, Virginia, accomplishes all MARAD programs for this region consistent with directions from headquarters. The region covers the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, central and eastern West Virginia, and eastern Florida. It also includes the National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) site at James River, Virginia.
Major Activities
The Region Director works directly for the Maritime Administrator and is responsible for the following activities:
Provides financial support services for programs within the regional area;
Custody, preservation, maintenance and operation of ships, including those in the Ready Reserve Force, at the James River NDRF site and elsewhere in the region;
Participating in regional port and intermodal transportation development activities, including environmental activities.
