Role and Purpose
The Central Region office, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, accomplishes all MARAD programs for this region consistent with directions from headquarters. The region covers the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and western Florida. It also includes the National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) site at Beaumont, Texas.
Major Activities
The Region Director works directly for the Maritime Administrator and is responsible for the following activities:
Provides financial support services for programs within the regional area;
Custody, preservation, maintenance and operation of ships, including those in the Ready Reserve Force, at the Beaumont NDRF site and elsewhere in the region;
Participating in regional port and intermodal transportation development activities, including environmental activities.
