Taylor E. Jones, II
Associate Administrator for Administration 

 

Mr. Taylor E. Jones II currently serves as the Maritime Administration’s Associate Administrator for Administration.  Selected to this position in March, 2008, he overseas the Agency’s Office of Information Technology, Acquisition, Administrative Services and Human Resources.  Mr. Jones graduated from George Mason University in 1973 with a degree in Business Administration.

Mr. Jones began his career in 1973 as a Presidential Management Intern in the Department of the ArmyHe was initially assigned as an analyst on the staff of the Comptroller of the Army, and subsequently held a number of progressively responsible positions in the comptrollership field as a budget, management and program analyst. 

In 1977, Mr. Jones accepted a position as the chief of a budget formulation branch at the Department of Agriculture.  Over the next 20 years, he held positions as the budget officer or head of financial management in a number of agencies, including the Department of Treasury, the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, and finally, the Maritime Administration.  

In 1994, Mr. Jones was appointed to the Senior Executive Service as the Director, Office of Maritime Labor, Training and Safety for the Maritime Administration.  Through that assignment he gained a wealth of knowledge regarding maritime education and training standards, maritime labor organizations, and crewing issues affecting U.S.-flag commercial and government vessels.  

In 2003, Mr. Jones was selected as the Director, Office of Sealift Support for the Maritime Administration.  His responsibilities included implementation and oversight of the Maritime Security Program (MSP), the Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement (VISA) and ensuring the availability of adequate mariners to meet our nation’s commercial and military sealift needs during a contingency or national emergency. 

An advocate of community service Mr. Jones serves on the board of directors for the Department of Transportation day care center and enjoys coaching youth soccer and basketball.
