Recent Activities Shell, AMO Sign Historic Agreement
Shell Ship Management Limited (Shell) and
the American Maritime Officers (AMO) have signed a pioneering
Memorandum of Understanding through which qualified AMO officers,
deck and engine, will begin to be recruited to work aboard
international liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers that are managed
by Shell. The signing ceremony was hosted by the Maritime
Administration at the U.S. Department of Transportation building in
Washington, D.C. Connaughton Leads US Delegation to OAS Conference
On April 7, Maritime Administrator Sean Connaughton led a 20 member United States delegation that included representatives from the Maritime Administration, Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Customs and Border Protections, Army National Guard, Navy Southern Command and Coast Guard to the Organization of American States (OAS) Third Hemispheric Conference on Port Security. The conference was held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This is the first time a Maritime Administrator has attended a multi-national conference dealing with maritime issues covering the entire Western Hemisphere. The conference was attended by the 34 member nations of the OAS along with representatives from the private sector and several observer states and organizations including the European Union and the International Maritime Organization. The Maritime Administration has an active role in the OAS Inter-American Committee on Ports. It holds the chairmanship of the Technical Advisory Group on Port Security, the Subcommittee on Port Security and the Subcommittee on Training. The Maritime Administration also sits on the Committee’s Executive Board and serves as the Executive Board Chair for North America. |
