Connaughton Sworn In as Maritime
Administrator
WASHINGTON, DC—Sean
Connaughton of Triangle, VA, was sworn in today as Maritime Administrator by
Acting Secretary of Transportation Maria Cino in a ceremony at the U.S.
Department of Transportation headquarters.
Mr.
Connaughton, most recently Chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors,
has extensive experience in the maritime industry and in maritime law. He is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine
Academy and an active duty veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. As a lawyer, Connaughton specialized in
maritime and international law.
“This
is a critical time for the maritime industry,” said Acting
Secretary Cino. “The
Administration will look to Sean to work with America’s ports to address
congestion issues, and to find ways to help relieve landside congestion.”
Mr.
Connaughton was nominated by President Bush to be Maritime Administrator and
was confirmed by the Senate on August
3, 2006. A biography of the
new Maritime Administrator is available at www.marad.dot.gov.
