The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has published a notice in the Federal Register announcing its intention to reopen the comment period only on MARADs portion of the joint notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) published in the Federal Register on February 4, 2004. MARADs portion includes its proposed amendments to 46 CFR part 221 and its discussion in the preamble to the joint NPRM.

In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, the Maritime Administration (MARAD) has announced its intentions to request approval for a three-year extension of a currently approved information collection entitled Application and Reporting Requirements for Participation in the Maritime Security Program. The collected information is necessary for MARAD to determine if selected vessels are qualified to participate in the Maritime Security Program. Respondents of this collection are vessel operators.

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has published a notice in the Federal Register inviting public comments on a waiver application under MARAD's Small Passenger Vessel Waiver Program. The OSPREY II (Docket Number: MARAD 2004-17956) is foreign-built or has lost documentation and has applied to carry 12-passengers or less in the domestic trade.
MARAD has the authority to issue a waiver of the U.S.-build requirements of the coastwise trade laws under certain circumstances as provided by P.L. 105-383 as amended.
