The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has published a notice in the Federal Register inviting public comments on a waiver application under MARAD's Small Passenger Vessel Waiver Program. The STEEL AWEIGH (Docket Number: MARAD 2003-16198) is foreign-built or has lost documentation and has applied to carry 12-passengers or less in the domestic trade:

MARAD has the authority to issue a waiver of the U.S.-build requirements of the coastwise trade laws under certain circumstances as provided by P.L. 105-383 as amended.

Written comments referencing the above-mentioned docket, may be submitted to the Docket Clerk, U.S. DOT Dockets, Room PL-401, Department of Transportation, 400 7th St., SW, Washington, DC 20590-0001 by 5:00 p.m. October 28, 2003. The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has approved an application under section 9 of the Shipping Act, 1916, as amended.

Crusader Fisheries, Inc., Seattle, WA has received approval to transfer the 1,167-gross-ton fishing vessel SOUTH SEAS to Panamanian registry and flag, as an incident to the sale of said Vessel to Augusta Fishery Corporation (Tiuna) Limited, a Vanuatu corporation.

The vessel was built in 1982 in New Orleans, LA.
